Golden Thread Silks is pleased to introduce our latest addition: handwoven, plant-dyed silks from Laos. The production of Lao silk is extremely labor-intensive, and it shows in the fine weave and subtle, yet rich colors. Lao methods of weaving and dyeing are unique, and stand out in the Southeast Asia region, which is known for its exquisite textiles. Lao silk is among the finest handwoven silk we have ever seen. From the ribbed, shimmery epingaline to the nubby, ultra-textured eria, these Lao weaves are exceptional.
We are also proud to offer revival textiles from the weaving workshop of Taykeo Sayavongkamdy in Vientiane, Laos where old motifs are re-created using natural dying techniques. These museum-quality reproductions of antique textiles are available by special order. Photos upon request.
